It was Nigel’s birthday in July and we decided to go away to celebrate but couldn’t decide where; we turned to our old faithful site http://www.skyscanner.net and did a search of where the cheapest flights were on the dates we wanted to go and where we hadn’t been and came up with Bosnia! After some online research we decided the cheapest option was to fly to Tuzla and get the bus to Sarajevo. The first reactions from friends and family when we said we were going there were ‘is it safe?’ and ‘don’t get shot!’ so we did some research and felt pretty safe as the war had finished 20 years ago; so we went ahead and booked a fun filled 3 night break. Honeymoon Destinations – Sydney
We arrived in Sydney at 11:45am very tired and a little grumpy after the flight but excited for the few days ahead. We had done some research about how to get to our hotel which involved getting the train but decided against it and got a taxi. We arrived at our hotel at 12.30 pm paying $30 and went to check in. Unfortunately our room wasn’t ready so we left our luggage and went out to explore. We decided to head towards Bennelong Point where the famous opera house and bridge were located. We saw a few interesting sights on the way. Continue reading “Honeymoon Destinations – Sydney”
Honeymoon Destinations – Fiji!
So it was time to leave Dubai and head on for our very long journey to Fiji. We arrived at Dubai airport and caught the 9:15am QF2 plane to Sydney. The plane we got this time was a Qantas plane and we were a little disappointed it wasn’t as fab as the Emirates plane on the way out. Nevertheless we settled down and tried to make the most of the 14 hour flight ahead of us. The in flight entertainment wasn’t a patch on Emirates and neither was the food but we got comfortable had a nap, watched some naff movies arrived very tired and grumpy in Sydney on time at 5am. After a short time in the airport we then got the 6.30am flight to Nadi, Fiji.
Spending 72 hours in Dubai
Our long awaited Honeymoon was finally here! We set off to Heathrow Terminal 3 for our 20:40 flight to Dubai. Although we had booked through Qantas this flight was serviced by Emirates and we were very impressed; the flight left on time and had great meals, in flight entertainment and even webcams to watch take off and landing from the nose of the plane! The food was the best I had had on any plane so far (slow braised beef yum) and the service was really good. Continue reading “Spending 72 hours in Dubai”
Planning the Ultimate Honeymoon
So after 11 years together we finally decided to tie the knot and spent quite some time trying to decide where to go for our honeymoon as we wanted to make it a trip of a lifetime. We had to weigh up what we could afford with what would be our dream holiday and decided on a 3 week break. Our initial list looked something like this:
- Hawaii
- Las Vegas
- Cuba
- Tahiti – Bora Bora
Unexpected New Year European Driving Tour.
Circumstances transpired that we had no commitments or plans over the New Year period or the following week which meant we had some free time on our hands. I have a New Year birthday and we were planning to do a overnight ferry trip to France/Belgium however given the extra time we had we thought.. lets get on a ferry and see where we end up in 8 days… and that’s precisely what we did!

Second stop Thailand (and a little bit of China!)
Arriving at 5pm we were collected by the transfer driver we had pre-booked to our accommodation Manora Garden. It was a 45-minute drive which cost us 700 thb (approximately £16). The property had excellent reviews and we hoped that it would live up to our expectations. We were not disappointed. Continue reading “Second stop Thailand (and a little bit of China!)”
A Week in Cambodia – Siem Reap and Phnom Penh
Our accommodation offered free transport from the airport to the villa which we readily accepted. It was a relief to see my name on the sign and we exited to the airport. Looking for our transport; we expected a car or a van and therefore were surprised to say the least when a tuk tuk showed up. How were our 6 cases going to fit on there? To our surprise this was no problem to the driver who tied on our cases and put them all around us! All secured and ready to go and laughing at how bizarre this situation was we headed off to our accommodation.

Finally it was time to embark on our long awaited trip. We headed off to Heathrow T2 to catch our Air China flight to Beijing. The check in process went with a few hiccups; we hadn’t managed to check in online and when we arrived the electronic system was not working in the airport. After manually being checked in we did manage to get seated together on the first leg of our flight and said goodbye to our luggage in the hope that we may see it again soon…. Change of Plan…Phuket here we come!
Ok so with everything set for our trip to Cambodia; hotels reserved, transfers booked we were informed by Air China that they had cancelled the 2nd leg of our flight from Beijing to Siem Reap. There were no alternatives either as Air China for whatever reason have pulled out of Cambodia. Continue reading “Change of Plan…Phuket here we come!”
